Scythian priesthood.

The author comes to the conclusion that in Scythian society at the time of Herodotus existed a segregate ecclesiastical stratum which may, in his opinion, be regarded as a priesthood. Despite some possible conflict, the Scythian priesthood, in the person of the fortune-tellers, helped to consolidate the power of the kings.

Problems concerning the origin of the «Enarean complex» and its concrete features are also dealt with in the article.
